No Austrian Podium Finish on the first, of the two, race days in Saalbach Hinterglemm. Local Hero Manuel Feller was on the second place after the first run and leading after the intermediate time but crashed short before finish. The leader of the first run, Matts Olsson from Sweden crashed too and didn’t make it over the finish line either. The best Austrian, again, was Marcel Hirscher, who was fifth after the first run, made three big mistakes on his second run and failed to finish among the first three, ending on a, for him, very uncommon sixth. The young Johannes Strolz (17 years) is the second one managing to make some points.

Zan Kranjec (1./SLO): „Being the first ever Slovenian Giant Slalom Winner is a great feeling. I can’t realize it yet. After not showing everything I can in the first run, I managed to fully attack in the second one. It’s the best Christmas present I could make myself.“

Loic Meillard (2./SUI) „It was a really difficult an hard race. My first ever place on the podium makes me over happy and shows me that my team and me are heading in the right direction.“

Marcel Hirscher (6./AUT): „I think I’ve unlearnt skiing in the last two days. It haven’t been standing that bad on a ski for a long time, but I have to say that I’m quite surprised that I’ve finished sixth for nearly crashing three times. The setup wasn’t perfect but no excuse for skiing in a way like that. ‚From Hero to Zero’ happens fast at major sport events like this. For sure it’s not funny but I will have to take it the way it is.“

Manuel Feller: „I didn’t have grip on the right turns anymore after I hit a stone on the first part of my second run. It was just a question of time until I fell out. I realized instantly that I could have stopped out of the race after that, because my race was over then. It’s sad that this happened in my home race!“
