Marco Odermatt took his first World Cup victory of the season in the Super G today in Saalbach Hinterglemm. By a comfortable margin, he ousted Vincent Kriechmayr from the leader`s podium with start bib 9. Only Matthieu Baillet was able to squeeze in between them and postpone the overall World Cup victory. “I made a mistake at the top and edged too much. Marco showed me the boundaries in the lower part of the course. I would have liked to have fixed the World Cup standings today, but I will go full throttle again in the next race. Marco and Matthieu were simply better today,” said Vincent Kriechmayr.

"It is the best day of my skiing career! I gave my all this season to get a place on the podium. I pushed myself to the limit, and today I finally succeeded. In the last races, I was already doing well, but I simply made too many mistakes. Today I made only one small mistake, but it was still enough for second place," Matthieu Bailet said happily.

Raphael Haaser came in a surprising fourth. With bib number 33, the Tyrolean provided some excitement once again. “Everything worked out for me, and I was able to learn a few things from the racers before me. I had a good run, even though I made a couple of mistakes. The piste was on and in top condition again today. There was still everything in it for the higher starting numbers. Next week I will be skiing the speed races at the European Cup here in Saalbach and then another Giant Slalom at the Reiteralm. In future, I will move forward step by step.”

“It was a sensational race. No one can do a thing about the weather conditions on Friday. Of course, it was a pity that we had to cancel the race, but instead, the Downhill and Super G yesterday and today were simply fantastic. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many volunteers who always pull together here when Saalbach hosts a World Cup race. For the downhill yesterday, we had almost 90 skiers from ski clubs all over Austria. It's just a great feeling when everyone helps out here,” says Bartl Gensbichler, Chairman of the Saalbach Hinterglemm Ski Club and President of the Regional Ski Association of Salzburg. “With regard to the World Championships, this was again a great exercise. We have learned so much, and with every race we host, we get a little bit better."

Mayor and OC chief Alois Hasenauer summed up the event: “We had a super race weekend, even though the weather didn't play its part at the beginning. Some wonderful images were broadcast to the world. We want to thank everyone involved and the countless volunteers who supported us. Without the volunteers, this would never have been possible. We are very delighted that we were able to send positive news from Saalbach Hinterglemm out into the world during this challenging time, and we are all proud of what we have achieved in the last few days.”
