Over the past ten event years, the GlemmRide bike festival has become a must-attend event on the international bike calendar. What once began as a new event format is now an established and distinctive all-round experience for the bike community, featuring an expo, live concerts and loads of action.
Looking back: the creation of a new community
In 1999 the first World Games of Mountainbiking event took place in Saalbach Hinterglemm. From 2004 onwards, the focus expanded beyond racing to establish bike shows as well. In the beginning, these were slopestyle and freeride weekends for athletes. In 2013 and 2014, Bikes and Beats introduced a new event format that brought biking and music together. Since 2015, GlemmRide has been creating festival vibes in Saalbach Hinterglemm. Gravity competitions, downhill races, an expo area, training sessions, workshops and group rides all clearly showed where the journey was headed: the GlemmRide bike festival was not meant to be an event for professionals only, but an open space for everyone who loves mountain biking.
Festival atmosphere with expo, live bands and the Masters of Dirt
In the following years, GlemmRide continued to grow steadily. The slopestyle contest developed into an international highlight and was held as an FMB World Tour Gold Event. International top riders delivered peak sporting performances, while pump track and rookie sessions, along with numerous other side events, made the programme increasingly varied. At the same time, the expo area established itself as a central meeting point between brands and their target audience.
The 5th edition in 2019 marked a special milestone: with an extended festival duration, a new record number of exhibitors, exciting contest formats and more than a thousand visitors, GlemmRide impressively demonstrated the reach the festival had achieved by then.
After the pandemic-related cancellations in 2020 and 2021, the GlemmRide bike festival returned in 2022 with full energy. Ride outs with well-known athletes, downhill and pump track contests, meet & greets, testing opportunities at the expo and even more side events made the comeback a strong statement for the bike community. In the years that followed, the festival became even more diverse: Masters of Dirt Big Air Shows, the Rookies Cup, new product highlights and DJ sounds have since created the best atmosphere on and off the trails in the 2023, 2024 and 2025 editions.
Anniversary: 10th GlemmRide Bike Festival from 9-12 July 2026
For the 2026 anniversary edition, Saalbach Hinterglemm now looks back on ten event years full of highlights. In mid-july, the Masters of Dirt Big Air Shows will once again take centre stage, alongside the downhill race with Rookies Cup, a large expo area, ride with the pros sessions and several live music highlights. Besides The Subways as headliner, the line-up includes DJ Danny Donner, Riddim Syndicate, the WOW DJ collective, ¥ang$chnittlauch, Glitter Pilots and Igel vs. Shark. And the best part: On all four festival days, the entry is for free!
