Now it’s official: the Zwölferkogel will once again become the stage for international ski racing in 2027. At a press conference of the Austrian Ski Federation on May 7, 2026, it was announced that Saalbach Hinterglemm will host two Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup races in the 2026/27 winter season. The men’s downhill and super-G are planned for February 27 and 28, 2027.

“This solution came about at short notice and was only brought into concrete discussion during the FIS spring meeting. The fact that we were able to act quickly together with Saalbach in this situation underlines Austria’s role as a reliable partner in the World Cup. In the interest of the speed athletes, we have consciously taken responsibility to ensure a balanced and sportingly high-quality calendar,” says Christian Scherer, Secretary General oft he Austrian Ski Federation (ÖSV).

Excitement in Saalbach Hinterglemm about being selected as host venue
Reactions in Saalbach Hinterglemm are very positive, as the selection as host venue show the expertise and trust built through major sporting events in the past, above all the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships 2025: “What thrilled the world in 2025 returns as a World Cup spectacle to Saalbach in 2027 – we can hardly wait and are looking forward to exciting races on the Zwölferkogel!” says Alois Hasenauer, mayor of Saalbach Hinterglemm. Martin Enn, chairman of the Saalbach Hinterglemm Tourism Association, adds: “We are looking forward to great races, relaxed entertainment, and the special atmosphere in the village.”

Saalbach as a reliable partner for major events
The ÖSV Secretary General shares the opinion: “The return of Saalbach is far more than just a signal in sports—it shows that investments in quality, organization, and sustainable structures pay off in the long term,” Scherer emphasizes. “Special thanks go to ORF (Austrian broadcast corporation), which is supporting this short-term adjustment and thus makes a significant contribution to the stability and quality of the overall product. We also thank the FIS for its trust—especially Urs Lehmann and Markus Waldner—who actively supported this approach,” Scherer added.

The late-February date remains organizationally demanding but also reflects a clear commitment: “Saalbach shows that it is willing to take responsibility and position itself as a permanent fixture in the World Cup in the long term. Alpine ski racing needs strong, reliable venues—and Austria plays a central role here,” Scherer concluded.
