The closing on 19 February 2023 of the World Ski Championships in Courchevel Méribel, France, is also the starting signal for the 48th Alpine World Ski Championships Saalbach 2025.

34 years after the unforgettable sunny World Championships in 1991, another atmospheric winter fairy tale is to be written in the world-famous Salzburg ski resort from 4 to 16 February 2025. The symbolic handing over of the FIS flag for the 2025 World Championships was the crowning glory for the Saalbach delegation at the international title fights in Courchevel Méribel.

"We have been able to experience great sport in perfect conditions and seven medals for Austria here in France over the last few days. The spark has been ignited and the anticipation to experience the next World Ski Championships in Saalbach is enormous. We will do our utmost to make these World Championships a true celebration of alpine skiing, which should also inspire young people for this wonderful sport in the long term," said Roswitha Stadlober, President of the Austrian Ski Association, who received the FIS flag in France together with Mayor Alois Hasenauer, Peter Mitterer (Mountain Railways Hinterglemm) and Bartl Gensbichler (Ski Club).

In order to be able to present themselves as the perfect host in two years' time, preparations are already in full swing in one of the largest and most innovative tourism destinations in the Alps. The focus continues to be on the concept of "one mountain - all competitions". Thus, all races will be held on the Zwölferkogel in Hinterglemm, which combines all World Championships slopes with only one finish area for all disciplines. The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2025 are not only intended to be a world championship of short distances for the ski stars and fans from all over the world, but the home world championships in Saalbach are also intended to set new standards in the staging of a major sporting event in terms of future-proof infrastructure and sustainability.

World Cup final to be a perfect warm-up for the World Championships

In March 2024, the crowning finale of the Alpine Ski World Cup will take place in Saalbach. The eagerly awaited season finale is also the rehearsal for the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships Saalbach 2025.

Before the World Championships come to Saalbach in February 2025, Saalbach is looking forward to welcoming the best ski racers in the world to the World Cup finals of the 2023/24 season. This is when the last sporting decisions will be made in both the women's and men's overall World Cup and in the individual discipline rankings. Traditionally, only the 25 best athletes in the respective discipline rankings and all skiers with more than 500 points in the overall rankings are eligible to compete in the season finale. In addition, the reigning junior world champions will be able to present themselves on the big stage of skiing at the finals.

This gives the athletes the opportunity to get to know the World Cup pistes on the Zwölferkogel better and to ski them at race pace for the first time. The World Cup final should also provide the World Cup organisation team with important insights into the infrastructure, mobility concept and sports logistics, as World Cup medals will once again be awarded in the Glemmtal valley just eleven months later.
