After the cancellation of the Downhill on Friday due to adverse weather conditions, the sun was shining today for the second Downhill race in Saalbach to make up for it. Thanks to the piste crew’s efforts throughout the night, a World Cup-worthy course was prepared after yesterday's snowfall. The Zwölferkogel showed its best side on Saturday with ideal weather and conditions.

Since the World Cup in Cortina, Vincent Kriechmayr seems to have pushed a button. This year's Downhill World Champion was able to continue his winning streak in Saalbach: "I had an awesome feeling, and I am very satisfied. It was important to find a good line and not to over-push myself. I simply skied a clean run and was able to pick up a lot of speed." He is relaxed about the Super G on Sunday: "It's a new day, a different discipline, a new race. The other guys are also very strong, but I will give 100 per cent and see what happens."

"It was tricky against Vincent today, but I gave it a go. The piste was great to ski and it was fun," says Beat Feuz. Some minor hitches at the start placed Beat Feuz in second place. "I lost the pole from my hand, and in the process. my little finger also slipped in my glove." At the World Cup final in his home country, the crystal globe’s decision is therefore still open, albeit with a clear advantage for the Swiss.

Matthias Mayer once again made it onto the podium in Saalbach. He is satisfied with third place but is looking realistically at the World Cup final in a fortnight: "It was a super race for me today. Vincent and Beat had a perfect run. I gave it my best shot, but they were faster. There is still one race to go. Theoretically, it is still possible for me to win the overall World Cup, but you can basically congratulate Beat already," he said in the ORF interview.

On Sunday, the next race in Saalbach Hinterglemm starts at 10:30 a.m. with the Super G.
