Summit Victories at the 10th Saalbach Trail & Skyrace

Incredible Performances in Saalbach Hinterglemm

On August 17th and 18th, the summit-rich Saalbach Trail & Skyrace took place for the tenth time. With a record-breaking participation of nearly 400 athletes from 21 nations, they once again showcased their endurance across six different disciplines. Exciting competitions on varied courses with many summits made the event an unforgettable experience for trail runners and mountain runners of all fitness levels.

The event kicked off on Saturday with the main event, the 13 SUMMITS SKY MARATHON. Covering 47 kilometers and 3,500 meters of elevation gain, the participants achieved incredible distances. Michaela Jilg from Germany finished first in the women's category with a time of 8:32:24. In the men's category, Benjamin Klein from Germany claimed victory with an astonishing time of 7:01:55.

The SOUL TRAIL, covering 9 km and 450 meters of elevation gain, was dominated by Stefan Kreuzer from Austria and Manuela Dietzinger from Germany.

The 6 SUMMITS SPEED race, established for speed enthusiasts, also saw active participation this year, with a finish at the eastern summit of Schattberg. The 16-kilometer race with 1,100 meters of elevation gain was won by Hanna Galler and Raphael Miks from Austria.

In the short but steep climb up the Schattberg Nord slope, the VERTICAL EXTREME, Veronika Haas from Austria and Finn Hösch from Germany triumphed on the 3.3 km course with 1,000 meters of elevation gain.

The 6h Challenge, where participants had to accumulate as many elevation meters as possible in 6 hours on the VERTICAL EXTREME course, saw Tina Chrobok from Germany win the women’s category. Sepp Jetzbacher from Austria secured victory in the men’s category with an incredible 6,000 meters of elevation gain.

Endurance mountain runners also tested their stamina in the 6 SUMMITS MARTINI SKYRACE, covering 19 km and 2,100 meters of elevation gain. The clear winners were Isabell Speer from Austria and Anselm Wüllner from Germany, with impressive times of 2:56:27 and 2:33:17, respectively.

Gunter Mayer, the organizer of the Saalbach Trail & Skyrace, summed up the event: “This year’s Trail & Skyrace was once again a great success, as evidenced by the new participation record. I am grateful that we were able to host another successful event, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the mountain railways, landowners, and the tourism association, who made this event possible.”
