Austria’s largest bike region can offer another discipline to its expansive package
Gravel biking in Saalbach Hinterglemm? The region which has primarily be known as a mountain bike destination is turning out to be an absolute hit for gravel bikers. The new discipline is the evolution of cyclo-cross and has positioned itself in the niche between road biking and mountain biking, inspiring endurance cyclists who don’t want to be bound to just riding on asphalt. A trend that is booming. Saalbach Hinterglemm is the first region in Austria that has committed itself to gravel biking, thus adding another milestone to the mosaic of Austria’s largest bike region.
Gravel biking stands for touring, performance, adventure and fun. Far away from the busy asphalt roads, gravel biking is an experience as individual as the bikers themselves. Whether touring with luggage, speedy off-road laps on gravel roads and forest tracks, or a pleasant tour of exploration.
Gravel biking is more of a lifestyle rather than a new trendy discipline, and this lifestyle is now on offer in Saalbach Hinterglemm.
With a range of gravel tours on offer, the limits which are only set by your own physical condition, Austria’s largest biking region has another facet to add to what it has to offer.
The small but essential difference between a gravel bike and road bikeWhile with a road bike you are restrained to the paved roads, the less aggressive geometry and the profile of the tyres of a gravel bike mean freedom, riding fun, adventure and a great experience in natural surroundings off the beaten track. The area around Saalbach Hinterglemm offers a true gravel road paradise, with various touring possibilities.
New cycle path between Saalbach Hinterglemm and MaishofenThe new continuous cycling path which covers 22 kilometres of gravel and asphalt runs parallel to the Glemmtaler Landesstraße- entirely off the main road. In addition to the various gravel tours in the Glemmtal - the "Gravel Devil", the "Dusty Ride" or the "Extreme Scream!", the new cycle path opens up numerous gravel and road routes in the Salzburg cycle path network, like for example the "Gravel The Lakes" from Glemmtal to Zeller See, Klammsee and Ritzensee.
