Due to the weather conditions, the men's World Cup in Sölden had to be cancelled on the 28th of October. The new venue for the cancelled race will be at the Zwölferkogel in Saalbach Hinterglemm on the 20th of December.

As ÖSV President Prof. Peter Schröcksnadel explains, the association receives a certain contingent of races each year, which, however, is considerably lower than the desired number. "For this reason it is very important for us that all scheduled races take place, so that the fans have the opportunity to seeing their idols live. For tourism it is especially important that races take place before Christmas. Unfortunately, we have only one appointment before the holidays with the kick-off in Sölden. Therefore, we have endeavoured to keep the race that was cancelled in Austria, which has been possible with our partner Saalbach Hinterglemm", said the President.

Saalbach has racing experience and is ready to face the short-term challenge. "Of course it's a big challenge to organise a World Cup race in such a short time and to make it equally attractive for fans and athletes. However, we are up to the task and will work hard over the next seven weeks“, said the Director at the local Tourist Board Wolfgang Breitfuß.

Bartl Gensbichler, President of the Salzburger Ski Association and Chairman of the Schiclub Saalbach Hinterglemm, is pleased that the Ski World Cup is back in his hometown: "We all know what we have to do now and we are pleased that we run the men’s giant slalom. When the weather is on our side I have absolutely no qualms about making a great race."
